1995 Air Forces Park Bongaree

An article from 1995 describes a memorial erected in the newly created Air Forces Park at Bongaree. The memorial was unveiled on 6th June 1995.

A new memorial dedicated to allied airmen has been erected in the new designated Air Forces Park at Bongaree. Officers from the Air Force base at Amberley erected the propellor from a DC 3 on a rock plinth on Thursday. 

The memorial was erected by the Air Forces Association in memory of all who served with the Commonwealth Air Forces or their allies. It will be officially unveiled at a VP day ceremony later this year as part of the 1995 Australia Remembers celebration.

The memorial is already turning heads with some residents concerned about the safety of mounting a propellor in a park which is so populat with children. The council is to inspect it to decide if modifications need to be made.
